SI2 (Sonic Inertia Duo) is an improvisational, multi-disciplinary arts group comprised of percussionist, composer, dancer, and choreographer Matthew Coley, and percussionist, composer, actor, and writer Cory Hills. Together, they bring innate storytelling abilities to the stage: Coley through his movements and Hills through his words. In addition, Coley and Hills fuse elements of world and folk music with elements of western classical music through the use of a zarb, a hammered dulcimer, and countless other world percussion instruments. As a result, SI2 creates a unique sonic landscape weaving traditional melodies with complex rhythmic structures. SI2 has performed in unique venues across The United States, and made their European concert debut in September 2009 as featured artists at the Days of New Music International Festival in Chisinau, Moldova. SI2 is endorsed by Innovative Percussion and Vaughncraft Percussion. Coley and Hills espouse the view that percussion is limitless, and as a result, their concerts attempt to showcase the endless sounds of percussion. Pieces range from the old (Philidor brother's march for kettledrums from 1682) to the recent (Octabones by Adi Morag) to the new (Hills composed Tenacity in 2009) to the future (consortium commission project for a duo piece by Martin Bresnick and a duo piece for choreographed percussionists by Angelo Sturiale). SI2 has presented master classes at numerous universities throughout the United States and Europe. Future engagements include a concert tour of Romania, Moldova, the Ukraine, Mexico, and the Midwest of The United States. Repertoire:
